For over thirty years, the journal Germanistische Beiträge (ISSN 1454–5144) has been committed to scientific and intercultural exchange. As one of the oldest academic journals in its field, it has a clearly defined scholarly profile. Against the background of the historical rootedness of the German language and culture in Transylvania, the publication, founded in 1993, has continuously expanded its thematic scope and aligned it with the research priorities of Romanian German Studies.
Over the past three decades, the journal has addressed a wide range of topics from different perspectives: literary, linguistic, and cultural intersections; identity-forming infrastructures of the German minority in Romania; the history and reception of German-language literature from Romania; interculturality, cultural exchange, and the formation of collective identities in multi-ethnic regions; the historical and regional anchoring of the German language; language contact phenomena; communicative practices in comparative linguistics; and the teaching and mediation of German in education.
The fact that Germanistische Beiträge can now look back on more than three decades of successful publication is due to the foresight and commitment of its editors and collaborators (authors, editorial board members, reviewers). They have significantly enhanced the quality and reputation of the journal. In times of profound transformation, the journal remains faithful to its thematic orientation and to the principle that German as a language of publication is essential for cultural self-positioning. Accordingly, the focus of Germanistische Beiträge will continue to include German-language literature from Romania, Romanian German as a standard variety and regional language, and German culture in Romania.
The journal publishes exclusively original articles and reviews in German, both in print and in an open-access model. Articles (max. 10 pages) should be submitted under the file name Surname_FirstName_GB_VolumeNumber.doc, together with the open-access form, to the email address revista.germanistischebeitrage@ulbsibiu.ro. No publication fees are charged; the journal is freely accessible online. It is published each November under the auspices of the Centre for Linguistic, Literary and Cultural Research (CLLCR) at the Faculty of Letters and Arts in Sibiu. Until 2019, it appeared biannually in print and digital form. Since 2019, it has been distributed via the Sciendo (De Gruyter) platform, which has increased its international visibility. Currently, the journal is indexed in the following databases: ERIH PLUS (since 2014), EBSCO (since 2010), Index Copernicus (since 2009), and DOAJ (since 2022).
In 2020, the journal was awarded the highest classification (A) by the National Council for Scientific Research.
